National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is a national organization which requires that its members be elected on the basis of scholarship, leadership, service and character.

Candidates eligible for election to this chapter must be members of the junior class. Candidates eligible for election to the chapter shall have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.300 at the end of the first semester of the junior year (grade point average shall not be rounded up or down.)

The grade point average shall be computed for the entire time the student has attended The Charter School of Wilmington. It shall not include grades earned in other schools.

Students who are eligible based on the GPA requirement will be reviewed by a Faculty Committee to determine if they meet the character requirement. Students may be excluded from the National Honor Society due to excessive absences, suspensions, referrals to The Review Board, poor discipline records or insubordination.

Students who meet the GPA and character requirements will be contacted by the moderator in April to write an essay on their service and leadership background.

In July, the students will be notified of their acceptance into the National Honor Society. Induction ceremonies are held on Back-to-School Night  in September. All NHS students must perform at least 50 hours of community service from the summer of their junior year through May of their senior year.
