Science Fiction

 

Open to : All grades, all phases

 

Length: ½ year elective

 

Course Description: In Science Fiction, the student investigates the human condition and the nature of reality by exploring alternative worlds and fictitious societies, situations, and characters.  The student studies the genre from the 18th century to present, including its history and impact on mainstream writers.  The student will read from a variety of authors and examine the genre subcategories of science, hard science fiction, soft science fiction, and will write original science fiction work.

Assessment: A variety of assessments will be used including tests, quizzes, papers, presentations, and projects
