The Jefferson Awards for Public Service is a program of the American Institute for Public Service and was founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, US Senator Robert Taft, Jr., and Sam Beard. The Jefferson Awards are presented on two levels: national and local. National Award winners have included Lance Armstrong, Dr. Condoleezza Rice, and Justice Thurgood Marshall. Locally the Jefferson Awards seek to recognize those ordinary members of our communities who do extraordinary things without expectation of recognition or reward. Recently, the Jefferson Awards launched a Youth Initiative to recognize students in high schools throughout the state. Those students chosen by Charter’s Selection Committee will be sent for consideration as state level winners.
Here at CSW we aim to recognize one student each month. In order to accomplish this end we rely on nominations from students, teachers, staff, and parents. Please consider nominating a student you know has dedicated his/her time to extraordinary community service commitments either locally, nationally, or globally. A nomination form is enclosed in this newsletter and forms are also available outside room 220. Please return nomination forms to the main office. Forms received from November 5th to November 30th will be considered for the November selection. If you have any questions please contact Robin Lober rlober@charterschool.org.
