Charter Council is the student government organization run by members of the student body in cooperation with Dr. Hollstein (the interim Charter School Principal) and the council moderators.  Charter Council is responsible for handling various events, activities, and affairs that make The Charter School of Wilmington a community where such aspects like school spirit are promoted and public service projects are tackled.  The group strives to accomplish a sense of unity and pride within the student body and to make sure the traditional high school experiences (and beyond) are made available to each person in the school.  Charter Council consists of four different groups representing each class in the school, which includes Senior Council, Junior Council and the Sophomore and Freshman Class Representatives.

Charter Council meetings are held once a month with members of the Charter administration.  Senior Council, Junior Council, and the Sophomore and Freshman Class Representatives attend these meetings.  In addition to Charter Council meetings, Senior Council and Junior Council meet individually on a daily basis.

Homerooms are regularly kept informed by their respective representatives, who also visit homerooms before a Charter Council meeting to allow both for ideas to be shared and to collect input from the student body.   When warranted, Charter Council members visit homerooms after a Charter Council meeting so information and updates can be disseminated.  For this reason, there are no individual homeroom representatives.

You do not have to be a member of Charter Council to participate in or plan activities.  Members of the student body as a whole are able to attend meetings to help organize and implement events such as Prom, Homecoming and Spirit Day.

Members of Charter Council serve for the duration of the school year. The process of attaining new members is renewed each fall.

As Charter Council expands, each new year is punctuated with fresh activities, offerings or services.  Every fall Senior Council designs a shirt for faculty and staff members to wear on Spirit Day.  Junior Council ’07 sold candy grams during the holiday seasons, and oversaw three firsts for the Junior Class: a ring ceremony, a lock-in and a class trip.  The 2006 Senior Council planted a memorial tree for two of our students tragically killed in an auto accident, and oversaw a tree planting dedication ceremony.  The 2008 Charter Council secured a new ice cream sundae dedicated to The Charter School of Wilmington on the menu at the Pike Creek Charcoal Pit location.  Charter joins other local area high schools in being represented in this Charcoal Pit tradition.  Most recently, the 2009 Senior Council continued the production of the morning news program "10 Minutes" with more success than ever, and also played a role in helping the school prepare for the upcoming Middle States accreditation.

Charter Council also raises money for various charities, including the 2008 Junior Council who conducted a book drive on behalf of the Wilmington Latin American Community Center.  Charter Council members also regularly volunteer their time at Wilmington's Emmanuel Dining Room.

Charter Council looks forward to many other new challenges...
