The Charter School of Wilmington celebrates Homecoming every year in full force (no pun intended!). Senior Council kicks off the Homecoming festivities with a pep rally, which is one of the most intense celebrations of Charter spirit throughout the school year.
The pep rally traditionally commences with an opening skit involving members of Charter Council. Whether it was sword fights Pirates of the Caribbean-style one year or “boxing” Rocky-style the next, the skits always get the crowd pumped early in the pep rally. The 2008 pep rally opened with a brand new skit: "MTV's NEXT-Charter Edition," followed by a spooky rendition of Michael Jackson's "Thriller." To see the pep rally skit from 2008, click here.
At the Homecoming pep rally, Charter sports teams are recognized, class banners are presented, the faculty competes in a relay race, classes challenge each other in tug of war competitions and then take on the faculty, and the sports teams and faculty try to best each other in a Chicken Wing Bowl competition. Each respective class also makes as much noise as possible into a decibel counter which determines the class with the most school spirit.
Every year brings a different pep rally finale, too. From students sinking teachers into a dunking booth to students transforming their teachers into human sundaes, human pasta bowls, or human tacos, the pep rally finales are always a highlight of Charter Homecoming festivities.
