Ninth Grade Admissions

All current 8th grade students whose primary residence is in Delaware may apply for 9th grade. The admissions process begins in 8th grade.  Our maximum enrollment is 970 students and our freshmen class size is determined by the difference between 970 and the number of returning students for grades 10 through 12.

The Charter School of Wilmington is committed to creating a welcoming culture and inclusive environment that reflects and supports the diversity of our community. All applicants must provide the following items since they are required for us to determine preference eligibility. Materials should be dropped off at the School’s Main Office or mailed to us via the United States Postal Service (USPS). Due to readability issues, we do not accept faxes or PDF documents by email. As a component of specific-interest in CSW, applicants will be evaluated through a standardized assessment. The results of this assessment may also be used for academic phase placement of enrolled students along with other phase-assessment processes. An email with reminders and instructions will be sent a few days before the assessment.

  1. Students applying for the 2025-2026 school year should submit the following required documents in addition to taking our Admissions Assessment on January 11, 2025, or January 12, 2025. The assessment is an important aspect of our Admissions Policy; students who do not take the assessment will lose points. This will impact the total combined score, which must be 85% or higher to meet the specific-interest preference requirements.  All documents are due to CSW by January 8, 2025. All documents must be dropped off at the School’s Main Office or mailed via USPS.  NO emails or faxes will be accepted.

An essay (to be completed during the assessment)

  • Two (2) Recommendation forms: 7th or 8th grade Science/Math teacher or Guidance Counselor. (All recommendations must be mailed to CSW in an envelope sealed by the teachers/counselors.)

  • A copy of the first marking period 8th-grade report card (upload to SchoolChoice application)

You will receive an email update from us advising you if your application is complete or if the required materials are missing.

Historically,  we have had more applicants than seats available.  When this happens, we use a lottery to offer seats while prioritizing applicants eligible for the defined preferences outlined in our Admissions Policy.
