What makes charter school funding so unique?

The Charter School of Wilmington only receives about 80% of the funding traditional public schools get. We receive operating money from the state of Delaware and school districts. The funds are allocated based on our unit count, the number of students we enroll each year.

Under Delaware state law, charter schools do not qualify for public funding of capital expenses.

The Charter School of Wilmington pays rent to the Red Clay Consolidated School District.

Our six founding companies, DuPont, Ashland Incorporated, ChristianaCare, Delmarva Power, AstraZeneca, and Verizon, do not provide annual financial assistance to our school; they provided our start-up funds in 1996.

CSW cannot hold a referendum or increase property taxes to recover lost funds.
