DuPont donated two pairs of HoloLens and 130 laptops to The Charter School of Wilmington on December 5.
HoloLens are augmented reality (AR)/mixed reality (MR) headsets developed and manufactured by Microsoft. Using advanced optics and multiple sensors, the holograms that are created can be used to display information, blend with the real world, and often simulate a virtual world.
“DuPont has been a consistent STEM education promoter and supporter in our local community,” explained Dr. Hai Zhu, Digital Technology Leader at DuPont and CSW Board Member.
“As one of the school’s founding companies, DuPont cherishes the relationship with The Charter School of Wilmington. When CSW established “The Cell” Makerspace, after talking with students and teachers like Mr. Michael Valenti, we realized DuPont’s technology could be leveraged and applied within the Makerspace to provide more opportunities and better experiences to students and faculty. That is why we are so happy to provide the HoloLens and laptops to enhance innovative digital and Artificial Intelligence engagement at CSW,” Dr. Zhu added.
Melissa Miller, Program Manager for DuPont and CSW Board Member, and Miao Wu, DuPont’s digital value consultant, also visited CSW.
Ms. Wu demonstrated the HoloLens devices with Mr. Valenti and CSW’s administration; the equipment is currently being used by students.
“We appreciate DuPont’s long history of giving at The Charter School of Wilmington since the school opened in 1996. We are fortunate to have the time and talents of Dr. Zhu and Ms. Miller on our Board of Directors, along with their ability to secure equipment and technology for our staff and students,” noted Dr. Reginald Johnson, President of The Charter School of Wilmington.
